Notes for Allen WILKINSON |
BEAUFORT, TUESDAY. A fatal accident occurred to-day on the Raglan and Mount Cole roads. Two men, named Hancock and Delahunty, employee of Messrs Flynn and Wilkinson, sawmill owners, of Mount Cole, were returning home, when they met a man named Luke Lilley, and offered him a ride in their waggon. The offer was accepted, and the horses were pulled up. Lilley placed his hands on the shaft to spring on to the fore part of the waggon, when the horses jerked him off, and two wheels of the waggon passed over his body. He was picked up, and died whilst being conveyed to his home. Lilley was about 60 years of age, and an old resident.
Mr Alan Wilkinson, a pioneer of the district, died at Beaufort on Sunday, aged 83 years. He was a farmer at Mt Cole, Raglan, for more than 50 years. He had lived in Beaufort for about a year. He was twice married, and leaves a widow and adult family.
