Notes for Marie Albertina"Allie" GOODING
MARIE ALBERTINA GOODING: The third child of William and Marie was born on January the 12th, 1884, at Yinnar. Allie as she was always known, grew up at 'Myrtlevale' and began her schooling when she was four years old. She walked the rough track with her older brother and sister to the Tanjil South School.
She always had a eat love of music and great learned to play the piano when young. She played for the Gooding family's musical evenings, at which neighbours took part. Allie also played the organ for church services at St. George's Church of England, from its inception, until 1942 when she had an accident and fell down a flight of steps, fracturing her shoulder.
She married George William Harvey Hasthorpe, son of Jesse and Esther Hasthorpe, another district land owner, in 1907.
Allie and George's children, Marie Esther May, and Arthur William Harvey, were both born at Morwell near where their parents had a farm at Hazelwood. When their son, Arthur was a few weeks old in 1913, Allie and George moved back to Tanjil South where they purchased a farm, which was some of the uncleared portion of land owned by George's father, Jesse Hasthorpe.
On this land they built a house for 200 pounds. They employed a builder, Fred Halden (who lived and worked in Moe) to build it. Here Allie's children, May and Arthur spent their childhood, and from where they also attended the Tanjil South school.
After their son's marriage to Ellen Joan Williames in 1942, Allie and George moved, to another property which they had selected in 1926, where they built another home (leaving their son on the home farm). This property had been divided soon after the marriage of their daughter May in 1932 to Reginald Edward Bacon, to provide a home for them.
Marie Albertina (Gooding) Hasthorpe, departed this life, on March the 17th, 1950, and her husband George, died on October the 28th, 1952. Both are buried in the Moe cemetery in the Church of England section.
