Notes for Clarence Alphonse GOODING
CLARENCE ALPHONSE GOODING: The first of the Gooding children to be born at Tanjil South, Clarrie was born on November 25th. 1890.
He was the sixth child of William and Marie Gooding and the third son. He, like his older brother Ern, went to school at Tanjil South, spent his childhood at 'Myrtlevale' and worked on his parents' farm when he left school.
After Clarrie's father, William, died in 1920 he and his brother, continued to manage the farm for their mother. When he met Vera
Cooper, (a Western Australian Nurse and grand-daughter of Jesse Hasthorpe), they soon married.
They farmed at Middle Creek, near Yinnar, for several years. Their only son, Desmond. was born there. They later moved to Vera's home state.
Clarrie's interest lay in geology, and here he was able to follow his bent in mining, while his wife, Vera, continued with her nursing career.
She later became matron of Yarloop Hospital. Their son, Desmond was educated at Perth University and chose to work for the Department of Agriculture as his career.
Clarence periodically revisited his childhood home in Victoria. He died aged 85 in 1975.
