Patrick Gannon was born approx 1820 at Ballymoe or Ballymore in Galway. He Married Julia Rogan at Belgian Chapel, Islington,London, August 1841. There first child Catherine (Kate) Gannon (later Wilson) was born in Southhampton 1843. Bridget Gannon was born in London in 1847. (Julie) Ann Gannon was born in Essex in June 1848. Mary Jane Gannon was born in Derby in 1851. Michael Gannon was born in Liverpool in 1854. John Gannon was born in Yarmouth 1855. On 21st August 1855 they departed Liverpool on the EMMA arriving in Melbourne on the 17th November 1855. MALACHY JAMES (later James Malachy) and Thomas Ignatius were born in North Melbourne 0n the 30 January 1858. Theresa Mary Gannon was born at Ballarat West on 22nd March 1860. Mary Gannon died aged 10 at ballarat East on the 1st October 1861.
Patrick was the surveyor at Meredith (Victorian Official Post Office Directory 1868). Bridget Gannon died at Newtown,Geelong 16th April 1868. The Gannons from Romsey ran the Lancefield Chronicle owned by Dr. G Birney from the late 1860's (Old Gisborne-The Bush Inn). Thomas Gannon died at Romsey 8th October 1870. The Gannon's horse Jerry Doolan won the Gisborne Purse (25 pounds). Original survey work done in the Drouin area by " assistant Surveyor P.Gannon" about 1875, was later found to have been slightly out of kilter by about 10%, (Butler, Buln Buln). Patrick & Julia went to live with Catherine sometime after she selected Crown Lease block #49 at Moyarra. (White history of Korumburra shire p315). Patrick was listed as a licenced Surveyoy in 1891. Patrick died at Moyarra aged 75 on 25th May 1895 and was buried at Poowong in an unmarked grave #47B. Julia Gannon died at Korumburra aged 77 on 10th January 1897 and was buried at Poowong with Patrick. |
