Notes for Nicholas JURATOWITCH
Early information on Nicholas is that he was a Ship's carpenter on the HELENE (or St Helens) and jumped ship at Sydney in 1861. Nic was actually born near Frankfurt and his Father was born in Poland. The correct spelling apparently is JURATAWISZ.
Infirmation on web in shipping pages found a ship called the HELENE. Arrived Sydney 24 Sept 1861. Departed from Hamburg 20 April.(e-11660.ref)

Nicholas was a court interpreter. He lived in the community of Wylie's Flat, this was a small community of tenant farmers working the property which was an original grant to George Loder, not far from the growing township of Singleton and the smaller village of Darlington
